Coach Jeremiah North Honored for Community Service
“Coach” Jeremiah North has a long history of Community involvement. In the year 2025 Coach North was blessed to be recognized by his employer, United States Steel, for his leadership in his local community. He was chosen among all the employees of United States Steel to be the United by Service “Volunteer of the Year.” Jeremiah is shown being given the award by United States Steel Executive Vice President Scott Buckiso and Plant Manager Joe Hunter. Also on the stage with him are his father and mother, Paul and Maryann North. It was this award that motivated Coach to form his own non-profit, “Dedicated to Downriver.”
Thanksgiving Outreach: Serving the Downriver Community
Thanksgiving and Christmas are two special holidays for Dedicated to Downriver. The Executive and Advisory Board is committed to continuing the tradition that has been in place for several years while expanding its outreach to serve the entire Downriver community rather than only select areas. In November 2025, several executive and advisory board members gathered to unload a truck filled with Thanksgiving turkeys. As part of the 2025 Thanksgiving Outreach Project, a total of 588 turkeys were distributed through both organized events and random acts of kindness.
One memorable moment from the outreach was Coach North handing a Thanksgiving turkey to a gentleman in need who happened to ride by on his bicycle at one of the delivery locations. These simple, unexpected acts of kindness reflect the heart of Dedicated to Downriver’s mission and its commitment to supporting and uplifting the community.
Christmas Outreach: Sharing Joy with Families
Every year the Christmas season has been a time of blessing and thanksgiving. Thankful for the blessings received of provision of toys that can be passed on to those in need in the Downriver Community. We have been blessed to receive donations from other states and even more blessed to see the joy in faces of the children and the parents of those who receive. Santa Claus (Coach North) and Mrs. Claus greet and bless some of the visiting children to one of our 2025 Christmas outreach projects.
